RICHMOND, Va. (May 3, 2008) – Mark Martin and the No. 8 U.S. Army Team turned in their second consecutive top-five performance with a third-place run in Saturday night’s Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway. It was also the best finish of the season for Martin and the No. 8 Dale Earnhardt Inc. team.
“We had a great car out there tonight,” said Martin, who ran inside the top five for the entire event. “If we can keep running like this, we will see the U.S. Army Chevrolet Impala SS in Victory Lane. Tony Gibson (crew chief) and these guys just are doing a great job each and every week and it’s an honor to drive this team’s race cars. I just have to thank the Army, the fans and everyone at Dale Earnhardt Inc.
The race ended under a green-white-checkered finish after the 11th and final caution of the night came out with only two laps remaining. Martin restarted in third place and came just a few feet of overtaking Kyle Busch for second place on the final lap.

Many young motorists committing DWD – “Driving While Distracted”
Richmond, VA — Today, Nationwide Insurance teamed up with NASCAR drivers Clint Bowyer and Landon Cassill, DRIVE SMART Virginia, the Virginia State Police, Henrico County School officials and the Richmond International Raceway to raise awareness among Virginia teens about DWD – Driving While Distracted.
“To remain safe behind the wheel, whether it is on a race track or on the streets, requires 100 percent focus,” said Clint Bowyer, driver of the No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet and current points leader in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. “If I allow myself to become distracted during the race it can cost me positions on the track, but driving distracted on the streets and highways can be extremely dangerous not only to the driver but to the other motorists on the road.”

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 27, 2008) — A potential top-10 finish turned into a 25th-place result for Joe Nemechek, who was collected in a 12-car wreck on the final lap of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Nemechek, who put his No. 78 National Day of Prayer/Furniture Row Racing Chevy on the pole, was in the lead draft as the race was winding down on the ultra-fast 2.66-mile oval.
“After the white flag waved, we were in good position to get into the top 10,” said Nemechek. “But then came the big wreck. I thought I had missed it, but at the last second the No. 48 (Jimmie Johnson’s car) came across my hood. We had a lot of damage to our Chevy Impala SS and I could barely get it to the finish line.”
Though Nemechek was disappointed with the result, the veteran driver was proud of the effort by the Furniture Row Racing team.
